Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], March 17 (ANI): The Chennai Air Customs has seized gold from swallowed capsules and electronics items price Rs 19.85 lakhs from the Chennai Airport, knowledgeable the Chennai Air Customs on Wednesday.
In accordance with a press launch issued by the division, 281 grams of gold together with 4 iPhone 12 Professional, six Airpods Professional, six Apple watches and 5 refurbished laptops was recovered and seized beneath the Customs Act from the possession of a passenger who arrived from Dubai on March 10.
“The accused Mohamed Riyas arrived from Dubai on March 10 was intercepted at exit by Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officer on suspicion of carrying gold. On questioning he gave the impression to be nervous and admitted of swallowing cylindrical capsules concealing gold paste capsules within the abdomen,” the assertion learn.
“Additional, on the search of his check-in bag, 4 iPhone 12 Professional, six Airpods Professional, six Apple watches and 5 refurbished laptops completely valued at Rs 6.85 lakhs had been recovered and seized,” it mentioned.
Riyas was admitted to Stanley Authorities hospital on the identical day to get well the gold from the swallowed capsules.
” After almost per week within the hospital, 34 cylindrical capsules weighing 372 grams had been recovered. On extraction 281 grams of gold valued at Rs 13 lakhs was recovered and seized beneath the Customs Act,” the assertion added.
