CHENNAI: A 56-year-old police head constable, who had not reported to work for the final three years, was arrested after he threatened an octogenarian girl in Chennai on Tuesday within the guise of a police inspector.
The accused has been recognized as J David Anandraj of West Ayanambakkam close to Ambattur. He labored as a head constable at Elephant Gate police station and had not reported to work since 2018.
Anandraj and two others visited Sridevi Unnithan’s home at Anna Nagar in an autorickshaw on Tuesday night. Anandraj, who was carrying a police inspector’s uniform, threatened Sridevi that he was going to arrest her for encroaching upon 25-cents of land at Ayanambakkam.
Sridevi’s grandson Sailesh, who was at residence, confronted the trio and alerted the police management room. The three males fled from the spot.
Sailesh, together with a couple of different residents, managed to nab Anandraj whereas the 2 others escaped.
The residents handed Anandraj over to the Thirumangalam police. He was remanded in judicial custody.
